Our mission is to empower neighbors of Fruit Valley to create a vibrant, successful, self-sustaining community which promotes long-term higher quality of life. We carry out this mission by encouraging residents to become connected through active participation in organized community events and educational opportunities that help them to focus on their assets and strengths.
notes from Laura: this paragraph needs work, perhaps splitting “vision” and “mission” statements, as well as adding creating partnerships with other organizations that can provide help for those in need in our community, otherwise the items below do not fit in well with the mission statement.
We are currently partnered with Evergreen Habitat for Humanity and their Neighborhood Revitalization program. (I think Brady said she sent you the info – her email contact is who to go through for further info – can you put that into this spot?)
We are also teaming up with Southwest Washington Humane Society! We will be working with them to help in the administering of their “Spay and Save” program right here in Fruit Valley. Please watch for more information in the coming weeks as to how you can become involved or be eligible for services.
We are building a traveling lend-a-book, take-a-book library. We are in the process of building and are currently looking for books. Perhaps your child has out grown some, or your own library is bursting out of the seams . . . we would LOVE to accept your extras! Please consider donating those books to Valley Visionaries so we can start our lending library out with an extra big inventory. Contact us here at V2 and we’ll be sure to help your books find a new home.
The new free lending library will be placed randomly throughout the neighborhood, on different days. Watch for it to come near you, and when it does, simply go peruse the offering of books available for all ages, select the one you’d like, take it home and start reading! When you’re done, you can take it back and grab a new one!
Heads up for high school youth!! We will soon be offering help with career choices, college applications, FAFSA forms and other continuing education materials. We want to do what we can to help make your next step – whether a trade, a job or going off to college – as easy as possible.
If you speak conversational Spanish – WE NEED YOU!! We are looking for volunteers to help translate for our Spanish speaking community. Please contact us for more information. All ages are welcome with this.
In April 2014 we will be hosting a Garden Fair! Would you like to grow fresh vegetables, herbs and fruits right in your own yard? Make plans to attend – there will be gardening class information, live presentations, FREE raffle prizes, seed giveaways and a special sign up for a FREE garden box complete with soil! More will be announced soon.
